Cameron Norrie secured his place in the semifinals of the Moselle Open after a tough match against local favorite Kyrian Jacquet on Thursday. The match lasted two hours and 25 minutes, with Norrie winning the last 11 points to seal his victory.
“He surprised me a lot,” Norrie said about Jacquet, the third French player he has defeated this week. “He was mixing it up really well. A lot of slicing, then really aggressive at moments. His serve is really, really good. The French have so many good players, so many different kinds of players. I really liked the way he competed and he could have easily won the match in the second set as well, but I managed to stay tough.”
Jacquet delivered 48 winners, half from his forehand, compared to Norrie’s 28. Despite this, the 30-year-old British player performed at his peak during critical moments to secure his spot in the last four.
Matteo Sonego, a previous champion in Metz in 2022, holds fond memories of the event. Norrie now aims to capture his sixth tour-level title and his first since winning in Rio de Janeiro in 2023, where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
Summary: Cameron Norrie showcased resilience to overcome Kyrian Jacquet and reach the Metz semifinals, pursuing his sixth tour-level title since his last 2023 win in Rio.
