Former NFL star Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to New Jersey. He is set to appear before a judge in Newark later on Friday as he faces attempted murder charges related to a shooting at a crowded Miami event this past spring, according to the Essex County prosecutor’s office.
Brown, 37, was brought back by marshals and handed over to the Newark Port Authority, which then placed him in the Essex County Jail. It remains unclear when he might be transferred to Miami or why New Jersey was the first destination. Brown had posted several times on social media from Dubai in recent months.
The arrest warrant describes the incident on May 16, where Brown is accused of taking a handgun from a security staffer after a boxing match and firing two shots at a man he had previously fought with.
“The victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators one of the bullets had grazed his neck.”
Brown faces a second-degree attempted murder charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000 if convicted.
