Netflix has given fans of Stranger Things an unexpected treat by releasing the first five minutes of its fifth and final season ahead of schedule. The opening sequence revisits a pivotal moment from the show’s beginning, blending nostalgia with new layers of tension.
The scene takes viewers back to November 12, 1983—six days after Will Byers’ mysterious disappearance. A digitally de-aged Noah Schnapp reprises his role as 12-year-old Will, terrified and trapped inside the Upside Down’s twisted version of Castle Byers.
He quietly sings “Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash to steady himself— the same tune his brother Jonathan once played for him in the show’s first episode.
Suddenly, a demogorgon bursts into Castle Byers. Panicked, Will defends himself with a hunting rifle and runs. Trying to escape, he scrambles up a tree, but the creature follows. The branch snaps, sending him crashing to the ground unconscious.
From there, the demogorgon drags the unconscious boy to the Upside Down’s version of Hawkins Library, where the menacing Vecna awaits him. Jamie Campbell Bower’s villain greets Will with chilling words:
“You and I, we are going to do such beautiful things together, William.”
The early release of Stranger Things’ fifth season prologue takes fans back to 1983, reconnecting them with Will’s trauma and offering a haunting preview of the final showdown to come.
