Sombre Camilla lays down wooden cross ahead of Remembrance Day

Queen Camilla paid tribute to fallen soldiers during a moving ceremony at Westminster Abbey’s Field of Remembrance. The event, held on the lawn of St Margaret’s Church, featured 250 small plots dedicated to members of the armed forces who lost their lives in service.

Organized by the Poppy Factory, where Her Majesty, 78, serves as patron, the ceremony precedes Armistice Day on 11 November. Dressed solemnly in a blue Fiona Clare dress and a red beret reflecting the uniform of The Royal Lancers, Camilla participated in the long-standing tradition of laying a wooden remembrance cross.

Her late father, Major Bruce Shand MC and Bar, served with the 12th Lancers during World War Two and received the Military Cross for his bravery.

During the service, Queen Camilla spoke with veterans, serving soldiers, and visitors, taking time to greet a dog attending the event. She appeared composed and respectful throughout the tribute.
