The No Data Centers group continues to voice strong opposition to two proposed data centers planned near Colorado Street and 61st Avenue in Hobart. Although the data centers were not on the Hobart City Council agenda on Wednesday, the group protested outside city hall and participated during the public comment period, which extended over two hours.
At the start of the meeting, Hobart City Councilman Matt Claussen read a letter from Angelita Soriano, spokesperson for No Data Centers. Soriano, citing Indiana’s Open Door Law, requested a comprehensive town hall meeting to discuss the data centers. She asked that all relevant city officials, developers, their attorneys, utility representatives, and IDEM officials be included, with the event recorded and held in a large venue.
"A 'real' town hall meeting to discuss the proposed data centers and to include all Hobart city officials involved, the data center developers and their attorneys, utility and IDEM representatives to be recorded and held in a large venue."
Mayor Josh Huddlestun responded to Soriano, promising efforts to organize such a meeting but noting,
"It will take time to get it all together."
During Wednesday’s meeting, Soriano also urged that no decisions be made at the Hobart Plan Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday. This meeting will involve petitioner Todd Leeth, the attorney representing Hobart Devco, LLC, the developer of the proposed data centers.
The No Data Centers group remains vigilant in opposing the data centers, pressing for transparent discussions with all stakeholders before any further decisions are made.
Author's summary: Community members persistently demand transparency and broad dialogue regarding Hobart’s proposed data centers, urging city officials to hold a comprehensive public meeting before proceeding.
