Defense attorneys for Lindsay Clancy have filed a motion this week seeking to move her upcoming murder trial from Plymouth County to Boston. They argue that due to extensive media coverage and resulting community disapproval, Clancy cannot receive a fair trial locally.
Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother, is scheduled to stand trial beginning February 9 in Plymouth County. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation related to the deaths of her three children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington highlights the "extensive media coverage" and "prejudicial information contained in the media coverage," along with the "community disapproval the coverage has evoked," as reasons why Clancy cannot get a fair trial in Plymouth County.
"The unavoidable conclusion is that Lindsay Clancy cannot be given a fair trial in Plymouth County," Reddington asserts.
This motion follows another filed a week earlier by Reddington requesting to delay the trial start date to May 11.
The defense believes local media and public opinion in Plymouth County have compromised Lindsay Clancy’s right to a fair trial, prompting efforts to relocate the case to Boston and postpone the trial.
