Two challengers defeat incumbents for seats on Wichita school board

Wichita School Board Election Results

Two challengers, Amy Warren and Amy Jensen, have defeated incumbents to secure seats on the Wichita school board, according to unofficial results.

Amy Jensen narrowly defeated conservative board member Kathy Bond in the District 5 race, which centered on the failed $450 million bond issue. Bond was the sole board member to oppose the bond issue, which was rejected by voters in February.

"I think public education won tonight," Jensen said. "I ran on the premise that public education is a good thing, and we need to do everything we can to support our kids and our teachers, and I feel like the voters agreed.

Board president Diane Albert and District 2 member Julie Hedrick were reelected. Jensen campaigned in favor of another bond issue to rebuild and repair schools.
