The annual Remembrance Day holiday honors fallen Canadian soldiers and recognizes the service of living veterans and active military personnel.
The city of Fort St. John will hold its Remembrance Day parade and ceremony on Tuesday, November 11th, starting at 10:40 a.m. Organized by the local Royal Canadian Legion branch, the parade will begin outside the School District 60 office on 102nd Street. It will proceed past the legion building along 105th Avenue, reach City Hall, and then return to the cenotaph for an outdoor ceremony.
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited inside the legion for various community activities. According to the City of Fort St. John’s website, these include horse races, a turkey shoot, and a dinner. The event is free to attend and does not require pre-registration.
The city has announced that road closures will be in effect along the parade route and near the legion building from 9:30 a.m. to noon on November 11th, with no vehicle access allowed during this time.
BC Transit will run a reduced schedule throughout the city on Remembrance Day. It also confirmed that all veterans and active military members in uniform will ride for free that day.
