Avs Captain Gabriel Landeskog Scores First Goal of 2025-26 Season

Gabriel Landeskog, captain of the Colorado Avalanche, netted his first official goal of the 2025-26 season during the second period against the Anaheim Ducks. While this marks technically his third goal scored this season, it is the first one officially counted.

The play began with Sam Malinski taking a powerful shot from the blueline, breaking his stick in the process. Valeri Nichushkin collected the puck and fired a shot on goal, but Anaheim Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal made the save. Landeskog seized the rebound and scored at 8:23 in the second period.

This goal gave the Avalanche a 2-1 lead over the No. 2 team in the Western Conference, sparking cheers and chants of "Landy" from the crowd.

“It was nice to move on. I think it’s my second-longest goal drought in my career. So it was nice to just be done with it. I’ve tried to just focus on my game and what I do, on a shift-to-shift basis, and the outcome is what it is. I try not to focus on the outcome, just kind of surrender that and focus on what I can do on a shift-to-shift basis. But having said that, obviously you’d like to go home and know that you at least got one on the score sheet, and then move forward with it. So my son will be happy in the morning when he wakes up to the news,” Landeskog said after the win.

Landeskog’s last regular season goal before this was on March 5, 2022, though he did score against the Dallas Stars in last season’s playoffs.

Summary: Gabriel Landeskog ended a long goal drought with his first official score of the 2025-26 season, boosting the Avalanche's lead and delighting fans and family alike.
