Environment Canada announced on Saturday that strong wind warnings for North Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii have now extended to include heavy rainfall warnings for North Coast regions.
The weekend wind warnings issued last night for North Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii continue. Southeasterly winds of 70 to 90 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 110 km/h in exposed coastal areas, are expected.
“An intensifying frontal system will impact the B.C. coast today and overnight into Sunday morning,” states Environment Canada.
These gusts began on Saturday morning and are predicted to ease by Sunday. However, the windstorm may cause power outages and disrupt services and travel.
DriveBC has advised drivers in the North Coast areas to exercise extra caution on the roads over the next few days due to these weather conditions.
“Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Stay away from fallen power lines,” states Environment Canada.
Heavy winds and rain pose risks of power outages, structural damage, and travel difficulties, with safety advisories in place for affected coastal and northern areas of British Columbia.
Author's note: This weather event demands vigilance due to strong winds and heavy rainfall impacting essential services and road safety in the North Coast region.
