Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster share two children, but when they first met in the 1990s, Rod, a father of eight, was hesitant about becoming a dad again. Penny Lancaster recently offered a heartfelt glimpse into their home life.
Penny, 54, celebrated her 18th wedding anniversary with the 80-year-old Rod Stewart earlier this year. The couple met in 1999, and their relationship grew steadily. Rod proposed in 2005 during a romantic trip to Paris, and they married in 2007 at the historic La Cervara monastery in Portofino, Italy.
Together, they have two sons, Alastair and Aiden. After Alastair was born, Rod renamed his tour the Alastair Wallace Stewart Tour to accommodate their son's naps.
Penny described how she kept Alastair’s Moses basket beside their bed during the tour, but his colic caused her considerable distress. She shared this insight in her book Someone Like Me:
“Every afternoon at exactly 4pm he’d give a shrill scream that sounded as though he was dying. In the end the only thing that would calm him was the sound of Rod’s Great American Songbook collection gently playing. I can only think that hearing it took Alastair back to the security of the womb, as I’d been in the studio to listen to Rod recording when I’d been pregnant.”
Penny’s emotional account reveals the early struggles of parenthood amidst a demanding music career and how music played a soothing role in their family life.
