The estranged husband of pop star Sia, Daniel Bernard, has been denied his request for sole custody of their son after claiming the singer was “unfit” to be a parent. Court documents revealed that Bernard alleged Sia posed a “serious and immediate danger” to their child.
Sia, whose full name is Sia Furler, filed for divorce from Bernard in March, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The pair, married in late 2022, privately welcomed their son, Somersault Wonder Bernard, the following year.
In late October, Bernard requested $250,000 (£187,000) per month in spousal support, claiming he had been “financially dependent on Sia” and needed the funds to maintain his “luxurious and upper-class lifestyle.”
Bernard claimed that Sia was “unfit” to raise their son and posed a “serious and immediate danger.”
The former radiation oncologist cited the singer’s history with addiction and alleged hospitalisation in September, during which she reportedly tested positive for barbiturates and benzodiazepines. Despite these claims, the court declined to grant him sole custody.
According to reports from People, the judge found insufficient grounds to restrict Sia’s custody rights, leaving parental responsibilities shared between both parents.
Author’s Summary: The court dismissed Daniel Bernard’s attempt to gain sole custody, finding no legal basis for his claims that Sia endangered their child.
