RSL Victoria is encouraging people to buy a red poppy ahead of Remembrance Day. On Monday, 11 November 2024, the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I fighting with Germany in 1918 will be marked.
Every year, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions observe this moment of remembrance.
Services will take place at 11am in the communities of Ararat, Willaura, and Lake Bolac to honor the day.
The red poppy, known as the ‘Flower of Remembrance,’ was one of the first flowers to bloom in the battlefields of northern France and Belgium following the conflict.
“Australia adopted this emblem in 1921 to honour the dead and help the living.”
Poppies and badges are currently available for purchase at these locations.
