Antonio Brown, former NFL wide receiver, has been extradited from Dubai to face trial in Miami on an attempted murder charge. The case relates to a shooting that occurred outside a boxing event earlier this year.
Brown, who played most of his 12-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is accused of firing two shots at a man after an altercation at an amateur boxing event in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood on May 16.
According to an arrest warrant issued in June, Brown “grabbed a black firearm from the right hip area” of a security official and fired at the victim, later identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu.
Authorities confirmed Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai, where he was reportedly trying to avoid U.S. law enforcement. He arrived via Newark, New Jersey, and was booked at Essex County Jail.
“The 37-year-old was being extradited from Dubai, where he was allegedly attempting to evade American law enforcement,” authorities reported.
Brown had not returned to Florida since the incident until his extradition.
