Antonio Brown, former Central Michigan University and NFL player, has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder charge in Miami, as confirmed by Miami Police.
The charge relates to an event on May 16, following a celebrity boxing match in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. During this incident, Brown was briefly detained after gunshots were fired.
Brown stated on social media that he was "jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me."
He added, "Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED."
In June, an arrest warrant was issued against Brown. According to The Associated Press, he is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots at a man with whom he had previously fought. One bullet reportedly grazed the victim’s neck.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales confirmed that Brown was taken into custody in Newark, New Jersey, where Miami PD officers have met with him. He is awaiting extradition to Miami to face charges.
Morales stated, "Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice."
Antonio Brown is currently held in Newark pending extradition to Miami for charges related to a May shooting following a celebrity event, underscoring law enforcement's commitment to justice regardless of status.
