Universal Pictures is developing a new installment of its classic adventure series The Mummy. According to Deadline, actors Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in talks to reprise their iconic roles from the beloved films of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The film is set to be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence. The screenplay will be written by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance. Sean Daniel, who previously produced the original Mummy series, will return as producer alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment.
“Universal Pictures declined to comment, and plot details remain under wraps,” Deadline reports.
The project marks another collaboration between Radio Silence and Project X, following their work on the Scream franchise reboot. Although the duo did not direct the upcoming Scream 7, Project X remains credited as producer. The teams also worked together on Ready or Not: Here I Come, a horror sequel for Searchlight Pictures.
Fraser and Weisz first appeared together in Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001), both inspired by Universal’s classic monster films and together earning over $400 million worldwide.
Universal is reviving its famed adventure saga with negotiations underway for Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and the creative team of Radio Silence to bring The Mummy back to life.
