The post office will move to a new location early next year. An Post confirmed that Paul Kelly Jnr from Kelly’s Supervalu Boyle has accepted the offer to manage the post office.
The Boyle post office is relocating from Shop Street to the Supervalu Shopping Centre on Elphin Street. Kelly proposed using a vacant retail unit inside Kelly’s Supervalu, which is centrally situated about 450 meters from the current post office. The new site is scheduled to open on February 3rd.
Late last year, An Post appointed auctioneers Cushman Wakefield to sell 14 town centre post offices, including the Boyle building. The asking price for the Boyle property was €130,000. A condition of the sale was that the post office would continue operating there.
“Yes, when we placed the former post office on the market we were doing so on the basis that it would remain as a post office. However, one could never rule out the new contractor giving up their contract, as happened here, not that new applicants would favour a new location,” said an An Post spokesperson.
“That’s what happened here and we have been lucky in coming up with an ideal new location and the chance to provide a new modern facility for the people of Boyle.”
Author’s summary: The Boyle post office will relocate to a modern new facility within Kelly’s Supervalu, ensuring continued service with a new postmaster starting early next year.
