Claressa Shields has openly criticized Jake Paul for his selective outrage regarding the cancellation of the Gervonta "Tank" Davis boxing exhibition. This decision followed new allegations accusing Davis of domestic violence.
On Monday, Jake Paul’s boxing brand, Most Valuable Promotions, announced that its Netflix event scheduled for November 14th “will no longer be moving forward.” Nakisa Bidarian, Paul’s business partner, explained they aimed to handle the situation responsibly and will instead have Paul compete against a different opponent in 2025 on Netflix. Gervonta Davis will not participate.
This cancellation comes amid court documents revealing that Davis allegedly choked his ex-girlfriend inside a Miami strip club on October 27th, among other incidents.
In his statement on X, Jake Paul called Davis “an actual walking human piece of garbage.”
Shields expressed skepticism about Paul's surprise reaction, suggesting the broader community was already aware of Davis' history. Speaking on X Spaces, she said:
“One: I will say this, I'm not going to say I 100 percent agree with what Jake said, but what I will say is that we all knew Tank’s background with domestic violence before his fight got made.”
“Before any of his fights get made, we already know he's got some issues with this.”
“This is not his first, second, or even third time with something like this coming out.”
Claressa Shields challenges Jake Paul’s surprise at Davis’ allegations, emphasizing that Davis’ domestic violence history was well-known before the fight was planned.
Author’s note: Shields calls out selective outrage, highlighting widespread knowledge of Davis's troubling past before his canceled fight.
