Australia’s batsman Matthew Short highlighted the challenge posed by Varun Chakravarthy’s pace and variations as teams prepare for spin-friendly conditions at next year’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
In the ongoing T20I series, Chakravarthy has taken four wickets across two bowling innings, playing a key role in India’s efforts to secure a series victory in Australia. The hosts are working hard to counter his spin before the World Cup begins.
“What makes it harder is just how quick he bowls,” said Matthew Short on the eve of the fourth T20I at Carrara, Gold Coast. “We’ve obviously watched a lot of footage and whatnot. But yeah, that’s probably going to be the other challenge heading to India if it is spinning or in Sri Lanka as well.”
Short noted that Australian pitches offer less spin compared to the subcontinent but acknowledged Chakravarthy’s bowling remains difficult to face.
Besides facing top-quality Indian bowlers, Short aims to help finalize Australia’s World Cup squad. He values the opportunity to learn and improve, understanding that conditions will be very different at the tournament.
“There are always ways to improve,” Short reflected.
