AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX: ATRL), a global engineering and nuclear services company, has been chosen by Hydro One Networks Inc., Ontario’s primary electricity transmission and distribution provider, for a multi-year Owner’s Engineer mandate. The project focuses on expanding the Bowmanville Switching Station, located near the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.
The substation upgrade will support the grid connection for four new Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) being developed by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) at the Darlington New Nuclear Project site. This expansion is a crucial step in strengthening Ontario’s energy infrastructure and enabling the flow of clean power to southern Ontario, including Toronto.
“Delivering nation-building energy projects in Canada and around the world has been a hallmark of our work in the Power & Renewables sector for decades,” said Ian L. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of AtkinsRéalis. “AtkinsRéalis is perfectly suited to deliver work on this substation, which is a critical link in supplying electricity from the Darlington New Nuclear Project to the people of southern Ontario, including Toronto.”
Hydro One, employing nearly 10,000 workers, continues to play a leading role in modernizing Ontario’s energy grid and supporting future nuclear expansion projects through partnerships with companies such as AtkinsRéalis.
AtkinsRéalis will oversee the Bowmanville substation expansion for Hydro One, enabling new SMRs to power Toronto and strengthening Ontario’s clean energy capacity.
