Titus is the Calgary Fire Department’s new K9 crew member, trained to detect ignitable liquids within minutes. This two-year-old American Field Labrador is a valuable addition to the team.
“We’re excited and extremely proud to introduce Titus, our ignitable liquid detection canine,” said Brad Brookes, Titus’ handler and canine investigator. “As humans, we use about five to six million olfactory cells. A canine like Titus has 300 million olfactory receptor cells.”
Titus is not only skilled in detection but also known for his friendly nature, often enjoying hotdogs as a treat.
