Zohran Mamdani Wins and It Is a Celebration of My New York

Mamdani will be New York City's first Muslim, socialist mayor.

His victory means much more. The author recalls arriving in New York City at 21 and being amazed by the city's diversity.

The author was surprised to find that everyone knew what halal meant, and that bismillah was etched onto food carts at every street corner.

New York was a revelation, proving that an American city could be Muslim.

Author's summary: Zohran Mamdani's win celebrates New York's diversity.
