A 24-year-old man, Fraser Syme, has been sentenced to unpaid work for hitting and killing a 90-year-old pensioner, Robert Duncan, on the A9.
On March 20 last year, Syme was driving north when he collided with Mr. Duncan near the junction for Newtonmore and Ralia. Mr. Duncan, a former farmer and model railway enthusiast, had pulled over due to suspected food poisoning and was struck by Syme's vehicle while stepping out of his Ford Fiesta.
Mr. Duncan died 'almost instantaneously' at the scene.
Syme was driving a Peugeot Vauxhall van from Brora to the House of Bruar for work at the time of the accident. The incident occurred while Mr. Duncan was traveling home after a weekend away.
