Jonathan Zieroff, 30, is facing a charge of open murder after his girlfriend, Kelley LaLonde, died from injuries he allegedly inflicted on her in his Michigan home last year.
Zieroff had been facing one count of felony assault with intent to murder over the attack on LaLonde, which left her with 52 individual wounds and spending months on life support before her death.
LaLonde suffered more than 50 individualized injuries, including bleeding from her brain, and spent months on life support before her death.
Zieroff's actions may result in a life sentence.
