Employees are receiving renewed furlough notices as shutdown enters second month, this time without back pay guarantees

Government Shutdown Enters Second Month

As the government shutdown enters its second month, approximately 650,000 employees are receiving renewed furlough notices.

The notices, which are required to be sent every 30 days, inform employees to remain at home without working. Notably, this time the notices do not include guarantees of back pay.

The current funding lapse has entered its 31st day and may surpass the record 35-day impasse from 2018-2019 next week.

The shutdown is heading into November, sparking new, altered furlough notices.
