Two Years of Uncertainty for Family of Missing Ghanaian Fisheries Observer

Two years have passed since Samuel Abayateye, a Ghanaian fisheries observer, went missing from a fishing boat he was monitoring, with no closure for his family.

Abayateye was assigned to the Marine 707, a Ghana-flagged tuna-fishing vessel owned by World Marine Company Ltd, when he disappeared.

Abayateye's family, along with Ghanaian NGO the Fisheries Alliance and other international organizations, have repeatedly asked the Ghanaian government for answers about Abayateye's fate, to no avail.

Author's summary: Ghanaian authorities remain silent on Abayateye's disappearance.
