Safety First: Hunters Urged to Use Caution Near Communities
Hunters and trappers are reminded to use caution near communities and remote work sites this hunting season.
The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture reminds hunters that it is against the law to shoot or handle a firearm without exercising reasonable care for the safety of others.
- It is against the law to shoot a firearm from or across a highway, railway, or public or private road.
- Hunters cannot fire a gun, bow, or crossbow within 1,000 metres of a school, playground or athletic field.
- Hunters cannot fire a gun, bow, or crossbow within 300 meters of a home or dwelling.
All hunters and outdoor users should wear blaze orange or other high-visibility clothing for their own safety.
Hunters are reminded that it is unlawful to hunt without regard for others' safety.
