LGA Welcomes Awaab's Law but Flags Resource Gap
Council chiefs have welcomed the introduction of Awaab's Law, but called for more funding to support implementation.
This legislation follows the tragic death of Awaab Ishak in 2020 due to mould exposure in his Rochdale home.
Our changes will give tenants a stronger voice and force landlords to act urgently when lives are at risk, ensuring such tragedies are never repeated.
Housing Secretary Steve Reed stated the above, while Cllr Tom Hunt, chair of the Local Government Association's Inclusive Growth Committee, emphasized that councils require sufficient funding to implement these measures effectively.
