Albany Med Health System, which owns Columbia Memorial Hospital, plans to change the hospital's designation from a rural referral hospital to a critical access hospital, pending state and federal approval.
The hospital currently has 192 beds, but only 35 to 50 are used daily. After the change, the hospital will have 65 beds, a reduction of 127 beds.
According to the hospital, this change will not include layoffs, but will reflect the hospital's current usage.
The hospital said this change is consistent with how Columbia Memorial Hospital is being used today.
