Senate Fails to Advance GOP Bill to Pay Essential Federal Workers
The government shutdown has stretched into its 24th day as the Senate failed to advance a measure to pay some federal workers.

The way to do it is get on the bill and then start working out the differences and hopefully pass it next week.
According to GOP Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, discussions will continue to pass his bill to pay federal employees, service members, and contractors working during the shutdown.
- The Senate will not meet on Friday and will reconvene at 3 p.m. on Monday.
- The shutdown will be on its 27th day, barring unforeseen developments.
