UK-France Travel: Eurostar Orders Double-Deck Trains
Eurostar has confirmed an order for new, double-decker trains, although their use on the London-Paris route is uncertain.
The company announced an order for 30 new trains from French manufacturer Alstom, with an option for 20 more.
- The Alstom Avelia Horizon trains are 200m long with two decks.
- Double-decker trains are common in France but have never been used on UK railways, except for a brief experiment in 1949.
Eurostar's chief executive, Gwendoline Cazenave, said she was "particularly proud to bring double-decker trains to the UK for the very first time", adding they would bring "exceptional comfort".
Eurostar carried 19.5 million passengers last year.
