SoCal Freeway Shutdown
A 17-mile stretch of the I-5 freeway in Southern California was shut down Saturday due to a military event involving live ammunition at Camp Pendleton.
The event was part of the U.S. Marine Corps 250th anniversary celebration. The freeway closure, which impacted both sides from Harbor Drive in Oceanside to Basilone Road near San Onofre, began at 11 a.m. and caused heavy traffic backups.

Video footage provided by California officials showed live munitions being fired near the freeway on Friday in an apparent practice run. The freeway has since reopened on Saturday afternoon.
