Civilians in Chicago are taking matters into their own hands, tailing officers, guarding Home Depots, and patrolling their neighborhoods.
A recent incident in the East Side of Chicago, a working-class Latino and Black community, ended in a car chase and a crowd turning into a protest.
Pauly, a resident, found three metal containers on his street:
- a tear-gas canister
- a smoke-grenade can
- a pepper-ball projectile round
The incident began when federal agents pursued a car allegedly driven by an undocumented immigrant, which then rammed into another car intentionally, leading to a foot chase and the arrival of more federal agents.
The crowd turned into a kind of protest.
