The 2011 NASCAR Cup Series races at superspeedways featured tandem drafting, a short-lived phenomenon that made for exciting finishes.
In 2011, Jimmie Johnson, aided by teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr., won a race by .002 seconds, tied for the closest finish in NASCAR history at the time.
A checkered flag from the race, signed by both Johnson and Earnhardt Jr., has been found by archivist Sam Ulrich, along with Johnson's trophy from that day.

With 319 victories in points-paying races, checkered flags are common, but this signed flag is a unique artifact.
