A Nigerian man shared his experience of being deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in September.
He described being woken up in the middle of the night, along with other detainees, and having shackles placed on their hands and feet.
The officers informed them they were being sent to Ghana, despite none of them being from there.
When they requested to speak to their attorney, the officers refused and used full-body restraint suits, known as the WRAP, to restrain them.
“It was just like a kidnapping,”
The Nigerian man, who is part of a federal lawsuit, said in an interview from a detainment camp in Ghana.
The WRAP, referred to as “the burrito” or “the bag,” has become a disturbing aspect of deportations for some immigrants.
