Alaska's Bush Caucus, representing impacted rural communities, will focus on recovery efforts from Typhoon Halong's damage in January's legislative session.
"I think we have a lot of soul searching to do," House Speaker Bryce Edgmon said. "How to protect our villages going forward, how to certainly provide shelter when an event like this takes place - I think we have a lot to look at and a lot to be concerned about."
Typhoon Halong has impacted 49 communities, forcing at least 1,800 into shelters, with 51 people and 2 dogs rescued.
