Sonoma Exhibit Features Artist's Detailed Botanical Illustrations
Sonoma artist Jill O'Keeffe's detailed botanical illustrations are on exhibit at Sonoma Valley Regional Library through October.
O'Keeffe's passion for botanical illustration began when she was a high school student, selected to draw illustrations for a book by a prominent botanist. She recalls:
I learned to love the focus and detail required for botanical illustration. I loved seeking out all the tiny details of the plants and creating an illustration of which I was proud.
All her drawings were created from live or dried specimens, using quill pens and black and white ink. Sixty years later, O'Keeffe continues to illustrate plants, collaborating with other botanical illustrators to advance her skills.
