How an NFL player helped Dusty Rhodes create MVP character

Origin of the MVP Character in WWE

Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com spoke with Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member, on The Insiders podcast. Goldstein shared how Dusty Rhodes created the MVP gimmick, inspired by an NFL star.

“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”

Goldstein discussed how Rhodes would develop gimmicks and characters for stars in developmental. MVP was in developmental at the time, with a rudimentary version of his character. Goldstein, an Eagles fan, noted the influence of NFL star Terrell Owens on the MVP character.
