Gurney Norman, a renowned Appalachian writer and mentor, has left a lasting legacy in the mountains. Many consider him an Appalachian treasure due to his significant impact on the lives of those around him.
Gurney Norman, I think that he’s just one of the most significant figures to come out of his Eastern Kentucky. He was somebody who stood tall and was a great voice for this area.
Mindy Miller, director of development and communications at the Housing Development Alliance, is one of the many individuals whose life was touched by Norman. She aspired to be a writer and considered Norman one of her heroes. Miller recalls a phone conversation with Norman, which made her feel important and seen.
