Indonesia’s Malang Hosts First-Ever Carmelite General Chapter Outside Europe
The Carmelite Order held its first-ever general chapter outside of Europe in Malang, Indonesia, guided by the theme Nostra Contemplativa Suas Missiones Discernit (“Our Contemplation Discerns Our Mission”).
The gathering, which took place in September, began with a Mass at a convention hall in downtown Malang. Around 100 international delegates attended the Chapter, representing Carmelite provinces, general commissariats, and delegations from across the world.
According to Fr. Augustinus Herjuno O.Carm, the event was a global gathering with an Indonesian flavor, allowing participants to experience the beauty and cultural richness of Indonesia beyond the formal sessions.
