Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving Speaker Mike Johnson two days to schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony or she will sue.

Three weeks after she was elected to represent Arizona’s 7th Congressional District in Congress, Adelita Grijalva has still not been sworn in. Mayes sent a letter to Johnson’s office, threatening litigation if Johnson does not schedule Grijalva’s oath of office ceremony by Thursday.

The ceremony must take place before the end of the federal government shutdown, according to Mayes. She announced that she was sending the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results.

Mayes stated that she will sue if the ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday.
