Udaipur’s nine-year-old chess player, Kiana Parihar, has made history by becoming Rajasthan’s first female to earn the title of Woman Candidate Master (WCM). The remarkable achievement positions her as one of India’s youngest players to receive this international title.
Kiana earned the WCM title following an impressive series of performances in national and international chess tournaments under the aegis of the All India Chess Federation and FIDE. Her consistently high scores and sharp tactical play distinguished her among senior contenders.
Her coach noted that Kiana’s disciplined approach and enthusiasm for the game have been key to her rapid progress. She has been training intensively since the age of five and already competes confidently against older and more experienced opponents.
Local sports authorities and chess enthusiasts across Rajasthan have celebrated Kiana’s success, seeing it as a source of pride for the state and motivation for young girls pursuing competitive chess.
Kiana’s parents emphasized the importance of family support and encouragement in helping children balance studies and sports. They hope her story will motivate others to promote participation in intellectual games at a young age.
“Chess teaches patience, focus, and planning — qualities Kiana has shown far beyond her years,” said her coach.
