Idris Elba and Neil Cross to Create Second Luther Film for Netflix
Chernin Entertainment is set to produce a new, untitled Luther film, continuing the story of detective John Luther for Netflix. The project reunites Idris Elba, screenwriter Neil Cross, and director Jamie Payne.
Returning Cast and Production Team
- Ruth Wilson, known from the original BBC series (2010–2019), will reprise her role.
- Dermot Crowley returns, having appeared both in the original series and the 2023 Netflix film Luther: The Fallen Sun.
- Chernin Entertainment, which produced the first Netflix feature with BBC Film, will again oversee production.
- Additional producers include Neil Cross, Tim Lewis, Idris Elba, and Gina Carter from their 22Summers company.
Production Details and Plot
Production is expected to begin in February, though Netflix has not confirmed the filming location. The storyline will follow Luther as he is covertly called back to duty to investigate a series of violent and seemingly random murders across London.
