CPHI 2025: Redefining Nutraceuticals with New Delivery Formats and Pharma-Grade Standards

The line between pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals is becoming increasingly indistinct. At this year's CPHI 2025 trade show, innovations emerged that unify efficacy and delivery formats across both sectors. Nutrition Insight engaged with industry leaders such as PharmaLinea, Lubrizol, Sirio, Corbion, and Bioiberica to explore this convergence.

Industry Convergence and Evolving Standards

Matevž Ambrožič, marketing director at PharmaLinea, emphasized the growing influence of the pharmaceutical industry on supplements. According to him,

“They have substantial marketing power and are applying pressure to the supplement industry to develop higher quality and proof of efficacy.”

This dynamic is driving supplements toward pharmaceutical-grade quality and verification.

Focus on Clinical Substantiation

PharmaLinea is spearheading efforts to clinically validate supplements at the finished-product level. Ambrožič explained,

“While branded ingredients are increasingly backed by clinical studies, finished-product clinical validation is still rare — and that’s where we focus.”

He added that several of their product lines have already undergone clinical studies, with many more trials planned. Their ambition is to have the entire portfolio clinically substantiated to meet emerging pharmaceutical standards, at least partially within the supplement industry.

PharmaLinea’s Vision

Ambrožič concluded,

“That’s our way of adapting to the future that will probably be more pharmaceutical-grade standards — at least for a part of the supplement industry.”

The shift highlights a clear trend toward higher quality expectations and closer integration between pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals.
