The National Capital Commission (NCC) is prepared to manage the Rideau Canal Skateway despite the prediction of a warmer, wetter winter season.
Ottawa may receive between five and fifteen centimeters of snow on Sunday, marking the season's first official snowfall. However, this snow cover might not last throughout the winter. Usually, Ottawa experiences its first snowfall in late October, making this year's later arrival a potential indication of a wetter winter ahead.
The NCC assures the public of its commitment to maintaining the skateway every season, adapting to the unique challenges each winter brings.
“Every year, we work diligently under challenging conditions to produce enough high-quality ice that is suitable and safe for mass use,” said Maryam El-Akhrass, NCC spokesperson.
This resilience ensures the continued enjoyment and safety of one of Ottawa's most cherished winter traditions.
Summary: Despite predictions of a wetter and warmer winter, the NCC remains dedicated to sustaining safe, high-quality ice on the Rideau Canal Skateway for public use throughout the season.
