Environment Canada forecasts 5 to 10 cm of snow starting Sunday morning, continuing through the day across the Greater Toronto Area. This marks the first significant snowfall of the season.
A special weather statement covers a wide area from London to Ottawa. Officials noted some uncertainty in the storm’s path, which could affect the snowfall amounts.
“There remains uncertainty with respect to the track of this weather system, and as such forecast snowfall amounts may change. For areas roughly from Stratford to Orillia and northwest, confidence is lower as the higher snowfall amounts may remain to the southeast.”
A snowfall warning is in effect for parts of eastern Ontario, where over 20 cm of snow is possible.
The system will begin overnight as showers, turning to snow by Sunday morning. After a short break, snowfall will continue through the afternoon and evening.
“This is system snow, it’s going to be widespread, so this is indeed our first widespread snow event of the season,” said CityNews Meteorologist Chris Potter.
Potter added that accumulation may vary, with downtown Toronto expecting around 2 cm, while northern areas could see 5 to 10 cm.
“Keep in mind what falls might not equate to what stays on the ground.”
Snowfall on Sunday will mark the season’s first major event with variable accumulations across the region, influenced by the storm’s uncertain path.
The Greater Toronto Area will see its first widespread snowfall of the season Sunday, with 5 to 10 cm expected and higher amounts possible in eastern Ontario.
