LeBron James Update
LeBron James is preparing for contact basketball and will be re-evaluated by the Lakers’ team physician in one to two weeks as he gears up for his 23rd NBA season. James has not played or practiced this season after being sidelined early in training camp due to sciatica, a nerve issue in his lower body.
The next phase of his recovery involves full five-on-five basketball practice, but its timing remains uncertain since the Lakers begin a five-game road trip starting Saturday in Atlanta, and James is unlikely to travel with the team. Recently, the 40-year-old star has been training individually.
“We don’t have a target date,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said last week about James’ recovery progress. “It’s just somewhere in that general timeline. We hope that he’s kind of checked all the boxes and is going to be back sometime in that second or third week in November.”
The Lakers confirmed James’ move toward contact basketball exactly four weeks after initially announcing his re-evaluation timeline of three to four weeks.
