Brian Mackney, a respected Canadian wrestler known for his time in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), has passed away at the age of 77.
Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, where Mackney competed, announced his death on Twitter, expressing their sorrow:
MAPLE LEAF PRO is saddened to hear of the passing today of “Silent” Brian Mackney, a Maple Leaf Wrestling alumni and legend in Toronto.
Mackney was not just an ordinary competitor; he captured the hearts of Toronto fans during the 1970s and 1980s and made a name internationally by wrestling in Japan with New Japan Pro Wrestling and All-Japan Pro Wrestling. He also competed in several National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) territories, including Mid-Atlantic.
When the WWF expanded into Toronto, Mackney continued working there for Vince McMahon for several years, maintaining a solid presence in the wrestling scene.
Remarkably, Brian Mackney achieved all this while being deaf, proving that his hearing impairment did not deter him from succeeding in a competitive industry.
Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling honored him by saying:
Remarkably, Brian Mackney accomplished all of this as a deaf person, showing that his hearing impairment would not slow him down – he rose above it all and accomplished what many do not.
He was also present at a recent event in May at the former Maple Leaf Gardens, demonstrating his ongoing connection to the wrestling community.
We join Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling in offering deepest condolences to Brian Mackney’s family, friends, and fans.
We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of the Silent Warrior during this time.
