Wendy's revealed it will close approximately 300 stores nationwide in the upcoming months. This announcement follows a previous plan to shut down 150 stores in late 2024. The chain is among the ten most popular fast-food brands in New Jersey, where many wonder if local locations are affected.
According to finance site Investing.com, Wendy's will close over 350 stores across the U.S. These large-scale closures come after the earlier announced 150-store shutdown. Interim CEO Ken Cook addressed the issue during a quarterly earnings call on November 7.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," Cook explained. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
He also mentioned the company aims to preserve some locations despite the closures, which will begin later this year. However, no specific stores or regions were identified in the announcement.
New Jersey currently has 145 Wendy's restaurants, with a concentration in South Jersey. Customers can use Wendy's online restaurant locator to find their nearest store.
