Photos of the Ka-Bar knife sheath linked to Bryan Kohberger have been released for the first time among over 2,300 pages of evidence published by Idaho State Police. This sheath played a pivotal role in identifying Kohberger as the murderer of four University of Idaho students.
Kohberger left behind a brown leather Ka-Bar knife sheath when he fled the crime scene in the early hours of November 13, 2022. This happened shortly after the fatal stabbings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.
The sheath was essential in the investigation because forensic genetic genealogy linked DNA found on it at the crime scene, 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho, directly to Kohberger, a 30-year-old criminology PhD student.
Kohberger purchased both the sheath and a Ka-Bar knife, believed to be the murder weapon, from Amazon in March 2022. This was eight months before the murders and three months before he moved from his parents’ home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, to Pullman, Washington.
The knife itself has not been recovered.
